CHARLIE ALLEN

Owner + operator Charlie Allen is an Oregon-raised, travel-obsessed fly fisherman who has spent over a decade taking friends on trips and building community around fishing + the water. Charlie has spent the last several years in between Alaska + Oregon for fishing and snowboarding and is currently based in Salem with his wife Roxie + their dogs Ellie + Nash.

In 2008 my friend took me to the Deschutes for a whitewater trip. Along the way I continued to see several fly fisherman + thought - jeez, I’d like to try that. At the end of that day, on my way back to Portland, I saw the sign for Deschutes Angler in Maupin. I stopped in and Amy Hazel came to give me some help. I told her I had no fly fishing experience and that I had no idea where to begin. Long story short - Amy got me set up with some flies and a combo kit rod + taught me a few knots. From there I was just self-taught and didn’t catch a fish that entire first year.

It wasn’t until 2011 when I went to the Crooked River + watched the other anglers, asked some questions + got some good pointers -BOOM. I started landing fish. At that point, I went down the rabbit hole learning as much as I possibly could. Fast forward 8 years and I buy a drift boat. I played guide for friends and family for several years before finally decided to do this for real - and here we are!
